This body of work is a personal exploration of depersonalisation disorder, framed through the surreal lens of Alice in Wonderland. Using self-portraiture as both subject and creator allowed me to embody the core sensation of depersonalisation, observing oneself from a distance, as if detached from reality. This dual role became a central method in conveying the fragmentation of self and identity. Inspired by the Victorian undertones of Alice in Wonderland, I manipulated the imagery to evoke a sense of aged theatricality, blurring time and place, to mirror the temporal and spatial confusion that often accompanies depersonalisation.
This project is rooted in introspection and emotional truth. The environments I created draw from imagination, infused with a sombre, lethargic mood, dramatising internal landscapes that are otherwise invisible. By visually weaving together fantasy, personal history, and psychological distortion, the work invites the viewer into a space where identity is uncertain, and reality feels just beyond reach.
